Do it yourself Spicy Cola

February 14, 2014 by Pat's Backcountry Beverages - No Comments

It doesn’t get much better than making it from scratch. Over the years we’ve dabbled with a few all natural soda variations, but have come to love this one. Use with our Portable Carbonator, SodaStream, or any home carbonation system.

Here is our favorite spicy cola recipe to get you started. We invite you to give it a try, and customize it to your taste.

1/2 quart water
Zest of 2 oranges
Zest of 2 limes
Zest of 1 lemon
3 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground anise seed
1/2 tsp dried lavender flowers
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp coriander
1/4 tsp citric acid
1/4 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups organic sugar

Simmer all ingredients for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove from heat, strain out the pulp, and blend in sugar. Top off with cold water to make 1/2 quart of concentrated syrup.

Store in Refrigerator.

When you’re ready to make a drink, dilute the syrup at approximately 1 part syrup to 4 parts water, then carbonate.

NOTE:  When using any system other than our Portable Carbonator, carbonate water before adding syrup.
